Exterior Forklift Operator

Under the supervision of the Production Coordinator/Supervisor, the incumbent of this position is responsible for handling the customer's steel parts before and after galvanizing.

Job Summary

The Exterior Forklift Operator is responsible for safely operating forklifts and other material handling equipment to move, load, unload, and organize steel materials in the outdoor yard of the galvanizing facility. This role supports production flow by ensuring galvanized steel products are transported efficiently between production areas, storage locations, and shipping zones while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport raw and galvanized steel materials throughout the yard.
• Load and unload steel bundles from trucks, trailers, and staging areas.
• Move finished galvanized products from production areas to designated yard storage locations.
• Stage materials for shipping and receiving operations.
• Ensure steel products are handled carefully to prevent damage to coatings or materials.
• Conduct daily forklift inspections and report mechanical or safety concerns.
• Maintain clean and organized yard storage areas.
• Follow all plant safety policies, procedures, and PPE requirements.
• Communicate with supervisors, crane operators, and production staff to coordinate material movement.
• Assist with general yard duties as required. 

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when required.
• Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
• Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, rain, and snow.
• Must wear required PPE including safety boots, high-visibility clothing, gloves, and hard hat.

Working Conditions

• Industrial steel galvanizing facility.
• Majority of work performed outdoors in the yard.
• Exposure to heavy equipment, moving materials, and industrial noise.
• Shift work may include day, afternoon, or night shifts.
