Shop Draftsman

Expozone is looking for a Shop Draftsman. Our company operates an integrated manufacturing plant for museum exhibits and commercial furniture.

Job description:
As a Furniture Draftsman, your main responsibility is to design, create and draw detailed plans and schematics for the manufacture of various types of furniture and exhibits. Here are some common tasks that may be associated with your position: 

1. Design: You work with customers, designers or interior architects to understand their furniture needs and requirements. You then translate their ideas into precise technical drawings. 

2. Technical drawing: You create 2D or 3D drawings using computer-aided design software (Solidworks CAD software). These drawings must be clear, precise and detailed, specifying appropriate measurements, materials and finishes, and complying with company standards and estimates. 

3. Choice of materials: You need to have a good knowledge of the different types of materials used in furniture manufacture, such as wood, metal, plastic, etc. You select the most appropriate materials, taking into account the needs of the client. You select the most appropriate materials according to the design and functional requirements of the furniture, as well as respecting budgets. 

4. Collaboration with design firms: You work closely with exhibition design firms to ensure that the plans you have drawn up are feasible from a manufacturing point of view. You can also provide technical advice during furniture production. 

5. Research and monitoring: You keep abreast of trends in furniture design, new manufacturing techniques and emerging materials. This enables you to propose innovative solutions and constantly improve your skills as a furniture designer. 

6. Other related tasks.

As a furniture designer, you need to be creative, attentive to detail and have good communication skills to understand customer needs and work effectively with members of the manufacturing team.

  • Efficient in AutoCAD / S wood skills
  • Experience in cabinet/millwork design
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret architectural millwork drawings
  • Understanding of woodwork, cabinetry construction, CNC Machining
  • Creative thinking and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail and strong analytical skills
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Strong written and oral communication skills (English and French is an asset)
  • Drive to learn new products and software
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Time management skills, with attention to detail
  • Able to work under pressure and ensure quality and timely completion of projects
