Customs Compliance Technician

We are seeking a Customs Compliance Technician to join our team. They will be responsible for supporting the organization’s import and export compliance activities to ensure adherence to applicable customs regulations and trade laws. This role works closely with logistics, finance, purchasing, and external brokers to facilitate the accurate and timely movement of goods across international borders while minimizing risk and ensuring regulatory compliance.

 

A Pivotal Role On A Large Team

The successful candidate will contribute to the success of the company by assuming the following responsibilities:

  • Maintain multiple sources of data related customs compliance
    • HS Database
    • Certificate or origin information & renewal
  • Prepare ruling requests for customs
  • Actively collaborate with various departments such as purchasing and marketing to ensure conformity of information.
  • Work with customs broker for smooth clearance
  • Classify and validate products using HS codes
  • Contribute to various customs improvement and development projects
  • Work closely with the Customs Compliance Specialist to ensure proper export information for all shipments.
  • Represent, support, and uphold the company Core Values and Management Philosophy.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

To successfully meet this challenge, we are looking for a person driven by the values of respect, teamwork, commitment, and pride with the following qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Supply Chain, International Business, Customs Administration, or a related field.
  • 2–3 years of experience in customs compliance, international trade, logistics, or a related role.
  • The required level of French is necessary due to regular collaboration with colleagues in Quebec and certain external suppliers.
  • Knowledge of Canadian and/or U.S. customs regulations and trade agreements.
  • Familiarity with HS tariff classification and customs documentation requirements.
  • Experience working with customs brokers and freight forwarders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook) and ERP systems
