Job Summary

Our client, a well-established general contractor in civil engineering, wishes to add a person to their estimating team. You will primarily work on sewer, aqueduct, and infrastructure projects, mainly in the public sector.

Here, estimating covers the entire bidding process: understanding plans and requirements, building a solid price, and then participating in the closing with the team. This is a role for someone who enjoys digging into files and working with project managers.

Main Responsibilities

• Take charge of the complete estimating cycle for civil engineering projects, with support tailored to your experience.
  
• Analyze plans, specifications, addenda, and tenders to identify requirements, constraints, and risks.
  
• Prepare complete estimates and bids by integrating direct costs and necessary elements for submission.
  
• Coordinate and compare supplier and subcontractor prices when required.
  
• Collaborate with other estimators, project managers, and managers during bid closures.
  
• Clearly communicate information from won projects to the team that will execute them.
  
• Propose improvements to estimating practices.
  

The team uses TPL and Excel for estimating. Géomensura or AutoCAD can be used for quantities; an external calculator can also handle this portion of the work. Therefore, you do not have to perform all volumetric calculations alone.

Desired Profile

• About two years or more of experience in a comparable estimating role.
  
• Experience with the complete estimating cycle and a good understanding of plans and specifications.
  
• Ability to become autonomous in preparing complete bids while collaborating during closures.
  
• Experience in civil engineering, excavation, sewers, aqueducts, or infrastructure is a significant asset.
  
• Knowledge of TPL, Géomensura, or AutoCAD may be useful but is not required. No specific level of English is required.

You are meticulous with your numbers, you know how to prioritize when multiple bids are progressing simultaneously, and you take the time to understand the risks behind a price. You communicate easily with colleagues who will take over the project after the award.

Collaboration is very important in this team. Our client is open to developing certain skills in someone who already knows the estimating process, asks the right questions, and wants to invest long-term.

Work Environment

The position mainly takes place in the office, with a project and estimating team. In-person presence is expected during the first months to facilitate integration. Bid closures are also done as a team and in person.

Remote work can then be discussed based on your autonomy, the period, and the team's needs; this is not a fully remote position. The schedule is approximately 40 hours per week, with some flexibility when the work is covered. The position is compensated on an annual basis. Overtime is infrequent according to the client, and if it occurs, an agreement can be discussed with the manager.
