Job Description

For its Police Service, the City of Laval is looking for an: Inspector - Police - Human Resources Planning and Integration

SALARY:   $148,314 (2023 value)

 

The inspector responsible for the Division of Human Resources Planning and Integration manages the activities of the human resources squad. In this capacity, he or she is responsible for the development and maintenance of staff competencies, the design, planning, dissemination, and evaluation of training, as well as the integration of recruits. The incumbent also manages the material resources team and contractual management. He or she supervises a multidisciplinary team composed of lieutenants, sergeants, police officers, and unionized civilian employees, while ensuring the achievement of organizational objectives and the optimization of resources.

The challenges that await you

Reporting to a chief inspector, you plan, organize, direct, and monitor the work of the employees in your division. You are responsible for the operational or administrative activities within your area of intervention, taking into account organizational priorities, issues to be addressed, available resources, and objectives to be achieved, while ensuring coherence between the Service's directives and the reality on the ground.

 

You actively contribute to the mission of the Police Service by participating in an informed reading of criminal and social phenomena, in order to align service delivery with the needs of citizens. Through your actions, you support the real impact of interventions, the feeling of safety, as well as the strengthening of trust and legitimacy within the community.

 

You participate in identifying and implementing the strategic and tactical orientations of your sector. You translate these orientations into clear and mobilizing priorities for your teams, while promoting optimal resource use, skill development, and a culture of continuous improvement.

 

You represent the Service on various internal or external committees and collaborate with institutional, municipal, governmental, or community partners. You contribute to the development and implementation of coordinated strategies to address complex issues related to crime, public safety, or high-risk interventions and participate in monitoring, evaluation, and accountability mechanisms to adjust actions and improve practices.

You will be called to:

  • Understand the issues of policing practices, intervention rules, and risk management, in line with the values of the SPL;
  • Mobilize and empower teams around priorities, in a context of change;
  • Exercise close leadership that fosters autonomy, collaboration, information flow, and the maintenance of a healthy work environment;
  • Contribute to projects aimed at improving practices, processes, and the quality of service to citizens;
  • Ensure rigorous, responsible, and safe management of the means implemented to achieve objectives;
  • Maintain a balance between performance, organizational capacity, and human factors;
  • Collaborate effectively with internal and external partners to support coordinated responses to public safety issues.
The ideal profile for us
  • Hold a university degree at the undergraduate level in a relevant field, such as administration, organizational development, management, or any other relevant field;
  • Have a minimum of 5 years of experience as a police management executive;
  • Having taken responsibility for and managed large teams would be considered an asset.
