Job Description

Reporting to the Vice President, Finance – North America, Medicom’s Director, Finance is an effective team player who is the owner of Medicom’s financial reporting, systems, analysis and processes. He strives to understand the past but is looking to develop the team, financial systems & processes to allow the organization to scale & invest its resources profitably. The Director is responsible for overseeing all financial reporting and analysis activities of Medicom North America, ensuring financial health, compliance, and strategic growth. This role involves reporting, budgeting, financial analysis, and risk management, with a strong focus on the unique financial challenges of a distribution & manufacturing environment.

The Director, Finance should have a strong sense of business acumen and ideally come from manufacturing and/or distribution experience background. This role will collaborate with their peers & cross functions to ensure financial information appropriately supports the business needs.

He will be able to perform his/her responsibilities all while living the Company’s values of teamwork, accountability, customer centricity, and empathy.

 

Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Strategic leadership of the North American Finance function
    • Develop and implement financial strategies to support Medicom North America business objectives
    • He should be able to bring visibility to the numbers by evolving the function from “transactional reporting & compliance” to “strategic business partner”
    • Experience in partnering with stakeholders to ensure the North American business is supported by timely and relevant financial information and analysis
    • Identify and implement appropriate KPIs (daily, weekly, monthly, etc.)
  • Ultimate oversight and management of the following
    • Full cycle accounting, including monthly/quarterly/annual financial reporting requirements – i.e. “Closing the books”
      • Scope: Medicom North American operations
      • Present financial reports, analysis and insights to leadership and stakeholders
      • For management reporting purposes, consolidate all operating divisions under North American responsibility
      • Oversee financial reporting packages submitted by manufacturing site controllers
      • Ability to write accounting memos to support accounting positions
    • Financial statement audit and tax activities and ensure compliance with financial regulations, tax laws, and internal policies
    • Manage accounting policies and procedures as they pertain to finance
  • Lead annual budgeting and planning process
  • Identify & implement processes and controls to mitigate financial risk and safeguard assets
  • Implement appropriate financial systems, analysis and processes to support Medicom North America’s business needs
  • Perform financial due diligence on M&A opportunities and lead post-acquisition integration
  • Instill a culture of continuous improvement to the finance functions, systems, and processes
  • Supervise the accounts receivable department
  • Coach and develop the team members to build/maintain a strong team to meet business needs
  • And all other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the direct supervisor that are relevant and related to the proper execution of this position.

 

Required Qualifications

Training

  • CPA designation required

Professional Experience

  • Minimum 10-15+ years in finance, financial analysis and financial reporting, including 5+ years as a people leader
  • Experience within the manufacturing and/or distribution industry
  • Experience in lean manufacturing finance, management accounting principles
  • Experience in supply chain finance management
  • Experience with M&A projects and financial due diligence
  • Audit experience (financial statement auditor)
  • Demonstrably improved processes and improved the FSCP
  • Audit experience from an Industry perspective (an asset)
  • Knowledge of Business Central (strong asset)
  • Full financial statement modelling experience (an asset)

Competencies

  • Deep knowledge of full-cycle accounting (PE GAAP, IFRS an asset) in manufacturing/distribution environment.
  • Demonstrably improved FSCP (financial statement close process) in prior experiences.
  • Intimate with audits “on both sides of the binder” (from a professional services/government point of view, and an industry point of view)
  • Experience in partnering with stakeholders to ensure the North American business is supported by timely and relevant financial information and analysis
  • Experience monitoring & managing working capital (AR, inventory, payables) requirements with cross-functional partners (Supply Chain, AR & AP, corporate treasury teams)
  • Knowledge of Quebec / Canada income tax concepts as well as American tax concepts – ability to identify potential issues that may have to be dealt with by specialists
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to connect across multiple functions and different hierarchical levels
  • Coaching skills to develop human capital and the Finance function from “transactional reporting & compliance” to “strategic business partner”
  • Knowledge of ERPs and Financial Reporting software (Microsoft Business Central, Hyperion by Oracle – both are assets)
  • Advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (specifically, but not limited to, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, SharePoint, and Power BI).
  • Experience setting up & managing the use of financial shared services teams (asset)
  • Knowledge & experience deploying AI tools to automate, enhance, and scale financial systems, processes, and teams to meet fast-changing business needs (asset)
  • Bilingual French/English, required (other languages, an asset)
