For its Public Works Service, the City of Laval is looking for a:  Deputy Director of Public Works

The challenges that await you

Reporting to the director, you are tasked with strategically leading and supporting the activities related to the operations of the Service. You assist the director in defining orientations, objectives, and policies, recommend and implement measures, processes, and programs aimed at fostering optimal performance of the Service's operations. You are responsible for acquiring, mobilizing, and developing human resources to achieve the set objectives. You apply the principles of continuous improvement and are constantly on the lookout for best practices in the areas of activity under your governance, all while increasing the level of service to citizens. Finally, you manage a significant operational budget, in addition to ensuring control over the material resources and infrastructures under your responsibility.

 

Your main challenges will be:

 

  • To implement best practices in your areas of business, while prioritizing health and safety at the core of actions;
  • To establish innovative strategies to improve the financial management of the Service and to address maintenance deficits;
  • To map all processes for the activities of the Service, while ensuring their modernization and optimization of their performance;
  • To develop management tracking tools related to the quality of work execution and activities;
  • To contribute to improving the management of mandates with various partners, including deadlines and related follow-ups;
  • To mobilize a diverse team to achieve objectives, particularly in implementing significant changes;
  • To enhance the management level of first-level managers, all while providing training and increasing their accountability;
  • To develop a culture focused on continuous improvement and performance in terms of service to citizens and service delivery.
The ideal profile for us
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (graduate degree is an asset);
  • Minimum of twelve (12) years of relevant experience, including at least five (5) in a management position of a large unionized team;
  • Strategic vision focused on results and customer satisfaction;
  • Excellent interpersonal relationships;
  • Strong mobilization capacity, combined with a strong results orientation.
