Main Responsibilities

 

Care Activities Component

  • Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the activities related to patient care and make the necessary changes;
  • Issuing guidelines and informing staff about the procedures and work methods to be applied;
  • Ensuring that an optimally safe environment is maintained for patients, their families, and staff, including the required infection prevention and control measures;
  • Identifying material resource needs, including medical supplies, and acquiring them in accordance with current purchasing regulations;
  • Assessing individual patient needs, evaluating, and confirming that the required care and services are being provided;
  • Recommending, implementing, managing, and monitoring the deployment of care policies and procedures;
  • Liaising with other coordinators and department managers;
  • Reviewing and updating care protocols, care procedures, and care techniques, while leveraging the healthcare advisor;
  • Implement best practices regarding incident and accident prevention and develop best practices to consolidate them;

 

Human resources management component; Nurses, Nursing Assistants, and Patient Care Attendants

  • Identify human resource needs according to the assignment plan, recruit the required staff, and take appropriate measures to integrate and retain them;
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and updating of the induction and orientation program for new employees to facilitate their integration;
  • Ensure that professional competence standards and criteria, as well as codes of ethics, are respected by healthcare staff and that they carry out their professional activities within their field of expertise;
  • Supervise, manage, and evaluate the staff under their responsibility;
  • Professionally support and assist nurses in finding solutions regarding patient files;
  • Develop Staff work schedules via the computerized platform, evaluate and approve leave requests and exchanges;
  • Be an active member of the internal CNESST committee;

 

In collaboration with the Care Advisor:

  • Draft and update the training plan for the integration of new employees into each position;
  • Establish and maintain ongoing training programs for staff and volunteers;
  • Propose theoretical refresher training;
  • Share necessary information when replacing the DSI;

 

Administrative and financial aspects of nursing care:

  • Manage the budget assigned to him/her and explain the discrepancies (salaries and purchases);
  • Purchase medical equipment, in accordance with the agreement with the CISSS and according to the current inventory;
  • Carry out maintenance and repairs on the equipment and materials used (beds, chairs, bedpan washers, etc.);
  • Refer patients and families who request it to the social worker, the spiritual companion, or Pallia-Vie Support Services;
  • Cooperate with the Alliance des maisons de soins palliatifs du Québec;

Requirements, prerequisites, and assets

  • Hold an undergraduate university degree in nursing (Bacc.);
  • Hold a certificate in management or Administration is a definite asset, or demonstrated experience in team management is a definite asset;
  • Demonstrate at least 7 to 10 years of progressive nursing experience, including 5 or more years in a management position;
  • Be a member in good standing of the O.I.I.Q.;
  • Demonstrate significant experience in palliative and end-of-life care is an asset;
  • Possess proven management courage, mobilizing leadership to influence individual and collective performance, the ability to listen, confidence in one's skills, and openness to others;
  • Demonstrate a spirit of analysis of complex situations and synthesis, as well as rigor and a constant concern for improvement;
  • Proficiency in MS Office software and various technological tools;
  • Proficiency in French and knowledge of English.
