Product Development Mechanical Engineer

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the R&D Director, as a Mechanical Product Development Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and developing products from A to Z across our multiple categories. Your mandate includes market research, normative research, design, testing, and the technical documentation required for sale. Our goal: to deliver the right product, on time, at the right price, that meets customer needs. To do this, you can count on the contribution of a team of about ten people including engineers, technicians and designers.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Project Management:

  • Provide technical support to the marketing team in drafting specifications and identify the standards to be met in assigned projects.
  • Plan, monitor and respect project deadlines and budgets.
  • Prepare and present progress reports on mandates to the department director.

Development of adapted products:

  • Market Analysis: Analyze the market to understand customer needs.
  • Product Design: Design products in SolidWorks according to customer needs, existing patents, and regulatory requirements, optimizing parts, costs, and the quality of the final product.
  • Material choice: Choose the appropriate materials based on technical requirements (e.g. steel, aluminum, plastic, etc.).
  • Prototype Manufacturing: Supervise the manufacture of prototypes, perform load and normative compliance testing of designed products.
  • Monitoring initial production runs: Ensure the follow-up of the first productions to guarantee a product that complies with the requirements, in conjunction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain documentation related to developed products.
  • Training: Conduct training on new products.
  • Any other related duties established by his superior.

REQUIREMENTS, QUALITIES AND SKILLS REQUIRED

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering;
  • Member of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ) or candidate for the engineering profession (CPI). In accordance with OIQ regulations, a person who is not a member of the Order cannot use the title of engineer. If you are not OIQ member, the job title will be "Product Development Project Manager".
  • Minimum 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in complete product development in a related industry;
  • Experience in the manufacturing sector;
  • Fluency in French and English, both oral and written;
  • Analytical and business acumen (use of standard parts and cost optimization);
  • Initiative, technical creativity, resourcefulness and ability to get things done.
  • Committed and passionate;
  • Rigor and attention to detail;
  • Results-oriented and mandate delivery;
  • Organizational skills, respect for deadlines;
  • Communicating the right information at the right time;
  • Team spirit and assertiveness. You are able to take the lead and propose new solutions.
  • Learning ability, curiosity;
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks or Catia computer-aided design software;
  • Knowledge of the Office suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
