Machinist

Reporting to the production manager, the machinist is responsible for setting up and operating various machine tools, as well as numerically controlled tools, to carry out precision machining work. The machinist machines parts of simple or intermediate difficulty, modifies programs, and makes their own adjustments.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Vocational studies diploma in machining technology OR College diploma in mechanical engineering;
  • Certification of professional specialization (ASP) in numerical control, an asset;
  • Ability to read technical plans and specifications;
  • Good command of measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, verniers, etc.);
  • Strong team spirit;
  • Show initiative;
  • Demonstrate accuracy and precision;
  • Knowledge of basic manual programming concepts (trigonometry), an asset asset

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Read and interpret plans, graphs, and tables;
  • Perform checks prior to machining work to ensure that the necessary elements are available: tools, templates, programs, required materials, etc.;
  • Perform adjustments, calculate dimensions and tolerances, measure, and arrange the elements to be machined; Take the original coordinates and start the program by performing the necessary checks;
  • Check the first parts and calculate the measurements, then send them to the inspection department for approval;
  • Make corrections to the parts following the inspection, if necessary, and start production;
  • Set up and operate machine tools and numerically controlled tooling;
  • Adjust, as needed, and set up machine tools for machine tool operators;
  • Check the dimensions of machined parts and tooling using micrometers, verniers, calipers, height gauges, optical comparators, and other specialized measuring devices and equipment, then complete and write the associated inspection reports;
  • Note any deviations in part dimensions by against specifications and tolerances, and notify the team leader;
  • Provide the necessary technical assistance to operators during adjustments in order to produce parts that meet customer requirements;
  • Participate in the training and integration of newly hired employees;
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts and continually improve work methods and processes within the department.

CONDITIONS

  • Salary: Between $24 and $34 per hour, depending on the experience and skills of the successful candidate.
  • Work Schedule: Day (5 x 8 hours = 40 hours)
  • Work Style: In-person
