Director of Operating Rooms

Our company, a provincial leader in private medicine in Quebec (100% RAMQ-free), offers specialized surgical services in a state-of-the-art private hospital environment. Its operating room division includes services in orthopedics, neurosurgery (back surgery), general surgery, ENT, gynecology, urology, and maxillofacial surgery. It also offers accommodation solutions for its provincial and pan-Canadian clientele.
Mandate
Reporting directly to the presidents, the Director of Operating Rooms is responsible for the planning, organization, performance, and strategic development of the surgical division and hospital infrastructure. This key role aims to ensure excellence in care, operational efficiency, growth in service offerings, and an unparalleled customer experience, in a highly competitive private sector environment.
Main Responsibilities
• Strategic and Organizational Leadership
o Act as an ambassador for the company's values, mission, and vision;
o Deploy a high-performance culture based on excellence, accountability, and autonomy;
o Structure and develop the surgical services organization to support the company's rapid growth.
• Operational and Performance Management
o Oversee all clinical and administrative operations of the operating rooms and hospital infrastructure;
o Develop and monitor business plans, budgets, key performance indicators (KPIs), and strategic priorities;
o Ensure the continuous optimization of human, material, and technological resources.
• Quality of care and compliance
o Implement best clinical practices, internal policies, and Accreditation Canada standards;
o Actively participate in quality audits and continuous improvement initiatives;
o Ensure continuing education and professional compliance for medical and nursing staff;
o Participate with the legal team on the medical steering committee, ensuring that all issues related to the code of ethics and the quality of medical care are covered.
• Development of service offerings
o Evaluate the profitability and feasibility of new specialties or procedures;
o Coordinate the deployment of new services approved by senior management;
o Collaborate closely with other departments (clinics and laboratories) to ensure intersectoral cohesion.
• Internal and external relations
o Maintain close ties with suppliers, clinical partners and medical teams;
o Actively participate in the management committee and strategic decision-making bodies.
Required profile
• Bachelor's degree in nursing or equivalent with a valid license to practice in Quebec;
• Master's degree in business administration (MBA) with a concentration in health services management or equivalent;
• Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the management of surgical (operating rooms) or hospital facilities;
• Bilingualism (French and English) essential, both oral and written;
• Proven ability in growth management, team mobilization and organizational innovation;
• High Availability and mobility (facilities in Quebec City and Laval);
• Budget management skills (financial model, manage cost per procedure, analyze gross margin);
• Proficiency in common IT tools and digital health environments (EMR, MS 365, etc.).
Salary and benefits
• Salary between $135,000 and $185,000 depending on experience;
