Plumber

Plumbers install water heaters, repair, and maintain pipes, fixtures, and other plumbing equipment used for water distribution and wastewater disposal in private homes and commercial and industrial buildings. They work for plumbing contractors, in maintenance departments of various factories and other establishments, or they may be self-employed. This group also includes apprentices.

• Read blueprints, drawings, and technical specifications to determine the layout of piping, water supply, and sewer and drainage systems;
• Install, repair, and maintain piping fixtures and installations in residential, commercial, and industrial buildings;
• Determine and mark the location of pipe fittings, holes for pipes in walls and floors, and fittings;
• Cut openings in walls and floors of suitable diameter for pipes and fittings;
• Measure, cut, bend, and tap pipes using machines or hand or power tools;
• Join pipes with fittings, clamps, screws, bolts, or cementing, brazing, or soldering equipment. Welding;
• Check pipes using pressure gauges to detect leaks;
• Prepare quotes, if necessary.
